Waldo: Chapter 6

              ~I slept suprisingly well that night. When I woke up, I felt bold as ever. Ratkiller was already awake. I heard him stirring about. "What are you doing?" I asked him.

"Nothing of importance, just cleaning up," he replied. "I haven't cleaned this dump ever since Jake died and now that I have a new deputy, it must be cleaned for your sake. Imagain a blind cat wondering around in this rubish! You would surely trip and snap your spine."

"Oh," I said. I hated being told what to do. "But, I'm bold and bold cats..."

"Hush, Waldo!" he said, in his smooth silky-sounding voice. "Now, I must imform you on this...I know you have no idea about it because you have not been with us but a day, but you must know. Here, we say "important" not bold. Being important is better than being bold. You must change from Waldo the Bold to Waldo the Important, got it?"

"Okay, sir!" I mewed cheerfully. "Waldo the Important at your ser..." before I could finish, Sora burst through the door.

"Borders patrolled, Ratkiller!" he said in his mellow, manly voice. "Not even the smallest scent of a Wild found! Oh, hi Waldo!" he meowed. I was proud he had noticed me.

"That's good," Ratkiller told him. "The last thing we need is Waldo here being killed by those savage creatures! I'm counting on YOU to make sure this deputy stays a bit longer, okay, Sora?"

"Got it!" he said in his kind and manly voice and then, I heard his pawsteps pad away.

Suddenly, I could sense Ratkiller getting depressed. "They all like Sora, Waldo," he said, sadly. "Even Bone, who basiclly hates everything...Nobody likes me...."

"I like you!" I burst out. I just noticed how stupid I'd sounded, but Ratkiller seemed to be too down in the dumps to notice.

"I've never been popular...even after my name switched from Johnathan to Ratkiller...." he said, in a whisper voice. "But one day...I'll show them. I'll show them who's the important one." He stopped and I could feel his one-eyed gaze travel to me. "Go and talk to the others. It looked like Mr. Popular Sora wanted to speak to you."

I wanted to comfront Ratkiller. "But, sir..."

"GO!!!" he hissed. "CAN'T YOU SEE I'M HAVING A MOMENT?"

I ran out quickly. Ratkiller sure was strange....but I still kinda admired him.
