Matilda walked home. It was night and she could tell the settlers had been digging. There was almost no ground left! She rolled her eyes. She hated destruction of the forest and so did Midnight, who let out a disgusted hiss as they walked twoards the camp.
"I wonder who I'll be sleeping with," Matilda sighed. The sailors had been asigned partners in their tents, so there were only enough tents for two to a tent. Matilda wondered if anyone didn't have a partner. She secretly hope John Smith didn't, even though she'd already been told be him that he was to be rooming with Thomas.
"Matilda!" a voice sounded from behind her. She turned to see no other but John Ratcliffe. "I have some news: there was one person on this voyage who did not have a room mate and you will be rooming with him!"
"Who is it?" she asked. John Smith, John Smith, she said over and over in her brain.
"Well....errrr, his first name is Rodney......" John said, obiously unsure about something.
"Do you go by his last night, because I don't know a Rodney on board, sir," Matilda questioned.
"Well, yes, his full name is Rodney Mathais....." John choked out the last word. "W...w...i...igg....gn....s...."
"WIGGINS!!!!??" Matilda hissed and Midnight sneered. "No way no how I'm rooming with that sissy little...."
"Matilda!" the govenor snapped at her. "I expect you to be on your best behavior. Who knows, you might end up being friends with the lad!"
"I doubt it!" Matilda hissed. Let's hope we don't have to share a bed, it'll be wet in the morning if we do! she told herself in her brain.
"Well, here goes," Matilda shurgged and opened the tent. Wiggins was there, in a blue night gown (similar to the one Matilda had slipped on), lighting a candle. He gasped.
"M...matilda!" he gasped. "What are you doing?"
"I've been asked to room with you," she sneered. "Don't push me, a raccoon already stole my snack today!"
"Really?" Wiggins chuckled a bit. He lay down on his bed. "That's the funniest thing I ever heard! Did he snatch it out of your pocket?"
"Yeah, pretty much!" Matilda laughed. "Midnight tried to fight him off but he dodged and Midnight fell in the river! It was halirious, let me tell you!"
"I spent the whole day watching the govenor feed his face and throwing away the leftovers," Wiggins sighed. "It gets annoying. Your sister is just like a dead body! She just sat under that oak tree all day!"
"Oh, you should see her at home," Matilda laughed. "All she does is sit on her lazy butt, talking about how wonderful John is! She's all OH JOHNNY GAVE ME A NECKLACE TODAY OHHHH! It gets REALLY annoying."
"You wanna know annoying?" Wiggins asked. "You should have heard them on the way here. OH, MADDIE WADDIE LET'S MAKE OUT AND NEGLECT POOR WIGGINS! I didn't even WANT to be part of their conversation!" He blew the candle out. "Why did I even light that thing, I would have just had to blow it out again!" He lay in his bed and Matilda lay in her's. "That's HALIRIOUS about your cat and the raccoon, though!"
"I KNOW!" Matilda gasped. "I wish you could have been there...." she trailed off. She looked into his eyes....a shocked expression on them.
"You....you hate me.....this is...wrong...." Wiggins' voice trailed off and he sighed. "Matilda, we could be really good friends, if we just tried...I'm sorry I alerted the govenor and got you caught I should have just sucked it up!"
"No, Wiggins, I did the wrong thing," Matilda told him. "I should have never attempeted to break your wrist. Your bones are fragile....no offense, but your awfully skinny!"
"None taken!" he said, cheerfully. "So, we're friends?" he asked as he settled down for the night.
"Of course, Wiggins," Matilda whispered, drifting off into sleep. "After talking to you, your really nice. But, it's bedtime. Good night....my friend."

Madeline blew out the candle. It was bedtime.....but the governor was not ready for bed.
"They have to dig MORE!" he growled. "We have to find gold this time, Madeline, WE HAVE TO!" He sat down on the couch and weeped. "I CAN'T FAIL AGAIN! I'LL BE LABLED AS A FAILURE FOREVER!"
Madeline sat next to him. "Now, hush, John," she whispered. She put her hand over his, but he coiled his back.
"I don't wish to play a love game with you right now, Madeline!" he hissed. "I'm distressed!"
She gasped. I'm trying too hard, she thought. She said, "Maybe you should go to bed," she adviced him.
"I'M NOT TIRED!" he growled. "I WILL NOT REST UNTIL I GET MY GOLD!"
Madeline was getting rather annoyed with him. He had never been THIS annoying before. "It's only day one, there's more days, I mean, we have as long as we want...."
"No...we...DON'T!" he growled. "ONE MOUNTH, MADELINE JANICE KROWE, ONE MOUNTH!"
"Cool down, sir!" Madeline said, sounding rather disgusted.
"DO NOT TELL ME WHAT TO DO!" he hissed at her.
Madeline gasped and looked away. Why was he yelling at her like this? What had she done? She was sick of it and stood her ground.
"IF YOU WOULD QUIT BEING SUCH A CRYBABY, MAYBE THEY WOULD LIKE TO FIND GOLD FOR YOU!" she growled. "YOU'RE BEING NOTHING BUT A BIG, FAT CRYBABY, JOHN!"
He looked up at her. "Madeline.....I didn't mean to offend you...." he said. He sighed, got off the couch and climbed into bed. "I need some sleep, I'm tired....and I'm sorry, Madeline...I still love you."
Madeline climbed into her bed. "And I still love you," she said. "I'm sorry...that was kind of an unnessacary outburst there..." She looked over to Puff and Percy, asleep on their pillow and smiled. "Night, John," she whispered, but by the heavy snoring coming from the bed next to her, she knew that John was already asleep....and didn't mean to yell.

Wiggins lit a candle. He had spent the day tending to the governor's needs and felt horrible. Imagain his suprised when he heard the doors of his tent swish and found himself looking into the face he loathed....but he was glad she was here, for during his spare time, he had thought of a plan that would make them friends. He pretended to act suprised.
"M....matida!" he gasped. "What are you doing here?"
She put her stuff down and sat looked at him, here eyes full of icey hatred. "Iv'e been asked to room with you!" she hissed at him. "Don't push me, a raccoon already stole my biscuit today!"
Wiggins chuckled. "Really? That's the funniest thing I'v ever heard!" A RACCOON STEALING A BISCUIT? That was right up there with a dog eating cherries! "Did he snatch it out of your pocket?"
Matilda began to go into a laughing spasm and Wiggins smiled. His plan was working already. "Yeah, pretty much!" Matilda chuckled. "Midnight tried to fight him off but he dodged and Midnight fell in the river! It was halirious, let me tell you!"
I can't belive it! Wiggins thought. My plan: to get into a nice conversation with her and make her quit hating me is WORKING!
"I spent the whole day watching the govenor feed his face and throwing away the leftovers," Wiggins said and rolled his eyes. "It gets annoying. Your sister is just like a dead body! She just sat under that oak tree all day!"
Matilda rolled her eyes. "Oh, you should see her at home," she laughed.
I didn't even WANT to be part of their conversation!" He blew out the candle he just lit and felt stupid. "Why did I even light that thing, I just have to blow it out again!" He lay down in his bed and Matilda lay in her's. "That's halirious about you and the raccoon, though!" Wiggins joked.
"I KNOW!" Matilda laughed, as she settled down. "I wish you could have been there...." she trailed off. Wiggins looked into her shocked eyes and pretended himself to be shocked.
"You....you hate me.....this is...wrong...." Wiggins' voice trailed off and he sighed. "Matilda, we could be really good friends, if we just tried...I'm sorry I alerted the govenor and got you caught I should have just sucked it up!" He was acually being serious, when he said that.
"No, Wiggins, I did the wrong thing," Matilda apoligized. "I should have never attempeted to break your wrist. Your bones are fragile....no offense, but your awfully skinny!"
"None taken!" said Wiggins, as happy as can be. "So, we're friends?"
"Of course, Wiggins!" Matilda answered and she said some more stuff after that, but Wiggins didn't really catch it.
We're friends! he thought as he drifted into sleep. I finially found someone to talk to on this lonely journey...
